Clearing the Field II was an intimate, comestible response to the process of healing cultural traumas further compounded by colonization and food apartheid, both byproducts of white supremacy. Ingredients used in this iteration of Clearing the Field like Chapulines (grasshoppers), Hoja Santa, Queso Oaxaca, Allium ashes, and mezcal were incorporated into dishes with regional and personal significance to Krystal in order to acknowledge and honor the intersectional struggle towards reparation, food sovereignty, and decolonization between oppressed peoples in two very different cities (Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, Mexico, and Baltimore City, Maryland, USA). Below are some images from Clearing The Field II in January 2020 at Pocoapoco in Oaxaca, Mexico.
